Monarch Pass…and a Great Highway 50

This is a great road! It winds through Bighorn Sheep Canyon to the east and over Monarch pass to the west toward Gunnison. It has good pavement and lots of high speed turns! We didn’t go that fast but the temptation was there. Michelle took the contour camera and video’d a lot of the trip. I picked the music so don’t blame her. It’s just over 3 minutes.

IMG_1024.JPG Gunnison is about 65 miles so it’s not that far. We looked at making a big loop but decided we didn’t want to go that far Saturday so we decided every road looks different from the other direction. We stopped for lunch at the top of the pass. There’s a cable car with gondolas that goes to the summit of Monarch mountain. We decided it would be a good place to have our lunch. What a great view. They have an indoor observation deck with benches and seats that you can see 360 degrees. IMG_1043.JPG IMG_1035.JPG IMG_1051.JPG IMG_1028.JPG IMG_1027.JPG Gunnison is a nice looking town. On the way in we saw a great park with cool playground equipment and some neat totems carved out of dead tree trucks. We decided it would be a nice place to stop after cruising the main drag.
