So, Michelle and I have an agreement. I drive the great roads on the motorcycle, and she drives them in the Mini Cooper. We were going to meet a scuba friend in Palm Springs (about 95 miles one way) for lunch. The weather was predicted to be hot, about 98 degrees, so we decided to take the Mini. Excellent choice as it was 100 on the car thermometer. After a great lunch with our scuba friend, John, we headed out to avoid traffic and find some nice twisty roads. California Hwy 74 just keeps on giving. Our RV park is on 74 further west and is one of the most scenic and twisty roads I’ve been on. Now, on 74, south of Palm Desert we find this super-windy road with amazing views for about 20 or 30 miles with very little traffic. Once we got up to around 4-5000 ft elevation it cooled off to the lower 80’s. I don’t have the words to adequately describe the fun of taking the Mini Cooper S (aka; the rally car) on this drive. With the windows down, the sunroof open and the stereo roaring, let’s suffice it to say, it was a blast!
For a cooler ride next week we’re going to go ride California Hwy 1, the PCH all the way to San Francisco.
