Kayaking the Everglades

We now own kayaks!  After enjoying my parents’ kayaks in Montana last summer and then renting a canoe in Suwannee River state park in Florida this fall, we decided we’d like to add this activity to our regular options for exploring new places. We did a LOT of research online and in sporting goods stores and found our kayaks on Craigslist from two individuals in North Miami. My kayak is an Elie Sound 100xe and Bob’s is a Wilderness Systems Pungo 120. We have taken them out a few times and really enjoyed being on the water. Both have great seats, which was a must!

We kayaked in the Everglades National Park yesterday and had such a wonderful time we just couldn’t wait to share our video. We mounted Bob’s Contour video camera on Michelle’s kayak to take this video of our trip on Nine Mile Pond Canoe Trail. To watch the video click on this link: Kayaking Everglades.

Should we change our blog to Ride, Paddle, Dive and Be Murray?  Probably, but that sounds like too much work. We hope you enjoy!

  1. Hi Bob and Michelle, Love the video and the kayaks…now we can kayak together if we see you again! We never kayaked the Everglades but it will be on our bucket list now! If you get to Sarasota, Florida on the Gulf Coast where we are from you may want to launch your kayaks off Blackburn point road in Nokomis between Venice and Sarasota. We used to kayak there in Sarasota Bay and Mike would fish and I would take photos. You may even get lucky and see dolphin or Manatee and lots of birds! If you get a chance visit Venice where Mike grew up it’s a quaint downtown on Venice Avenue and the beach is at the end. Good place for sea food is The Crow’s Nest. What are your plans for this summer? We’ll be headed to the Dakotas, Colorado and Utah. There is a Tiffin Rally in Gillette, WY on 6/20 to 6/24 that we signed up for. Have fun and happy trails!
