Starting our Northwest Adventure

After a couple months exploring Eastern California, we are now in Oregon and starting our Northwest Adventure for the summer of 2017.   Our internet has been spotty at best, so we may try to go back and post about our wonderful explorations in California, but we’d rather stay current and share our latest fun.

We have decided to use a zone pass with Thousand Trails to allow us to explore the Northwest coast inexpensively and with full hookups. To makes this work, we are planning to move every 4 days, which is a lot for us. We are a bit nervous that we will get tired of the pace, but we are really looking forward to getting to explore and area where neither of us has spent time before. Our drive up from California along highway 101 was pretty spectacular.

We are now at South Jetty RV near Florence, OR. The sites here are pretty tight for our big rig, but we are amongst gorgeous trees, which make the park picturesque and help break up the ocean breezes. We are right down the road from Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The dunes totally remind us of the dunes on the outer banks of North Carolina, although some of the dunes here are covered with a lot more vegetation.

Today, we hiked the Sweet Creek Homestead and Falls Trail. We drove there on Forest Service Road 24, which was a paved, one lane (with turnouts) road through an awesome forest. We didn’t encounter a single car and the drive was a great precursor to our hike. The hike along the Sweet Creek gorge was in a magical, enchanted forest along a creek with a bunch of waterfalls. Truly breathtaking.

I know it’s a short post, but maybe shorter means we will do them more often!  Time will tell!
